Voices Behind The Wall

voices-behind-the-wall

“Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall, Mr. Gorbachev Open this gate! ” these words, by Ronald Reagan, have been perpetuated in history from June 1987, his meeting in Berlin a few years before the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Iron Curtain.

The Cold War was reflected of World War II and was produced when all the victorious nations claimed their war booty.

Germany was the most desired territory and so divided between two sections: The USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) with socialist policies; along with France, the United States and Britain with opposing ideologies. This created political friction whose epicenter was located in the German capital Berlin, that also was divided into two halves separated by geopolitical ideological lines that later became ultimately a sophisticated line of fire between two monumental walls concrete. But 29 years ago that these 3.60 meters of concrete fell November 9 at night; 25 years ago she fell on Schandmauer.

That created political friction whose epicenter was located in Berlin, that also was divided into two halves separated by geopolitical ideological lines that later became ultimately a sophisticated firing line between two huge retaining wall. But 29 years ago that these 3.60 meters of granite stone finally was brought down that night on November; “Und endlich, Schandmauer ist gefallen”

The historical events are motivated by small acts witch cause finally the social change. The fall of the Berlin Wall represent the end of the communist ideology and totalitarianism, but in practice communist and extreme right stay inside Germany waiting to try to take over the world

This wall generated great social unrest and a deep anguish of knowing that the world in which we live is governed by political parties and authoritarian leaders.
However, the artist and his tragedy always goes back on the ideological offensive that the system uses to skew any options for human development. But that does not necessarily mean that must be considered a tragedy because news and beautiful stories emerge like Nikita, the song composed by Elton John, to try to give a positive view of the misery that they lived in Germany before and during Perestroika. Or memorable Scorpion’s band song Wind of Change, a tragic piece of music that describe a political situation based on the premise that the course of history does not stop neither walls nor political ideologies. We have also the mythical Heroes of David Bowie inspires a world of love without borders. Another commercial successes song but in spanish language have been “tirar los muros abajo” by Miguel Mateos, a remote ode for posterity. And finally, in a tragicomedy style, El Muro de Berlin by Joaquin Sabina who becomes a historical event in a perfect intellectual joke with rock and roll rhythms. In conclusion, This Wall has been the last bastion for freedom of political thinking can be assessed with less shock through the songs of artists and through art itself … for now remember: that history is not only written by historians and conquerors.

In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.

Franklin D. Roosevelt
